Your privacy matters to us. This Privacy Policy explains what information LinguaSwipe ("we", "us" or "our") collects when you use our mobile application, website and related services (the "Service"), how we use it, and the rights you have over your data.
1. Information We Collect
We collect only the information needed to provide and improve the Service:
- Account information: your email address and name, provided when you register or sign in with Google or Apple.
- Language preferences: your native language and the languages you are learning.
- Learning progress: flashcard results, lessons completed, streaks, levels and similar activity data.
- Saved words: words and word lists you save, and text you submit for translation or to the AI tutor.
- Technical information: basic device and app information (such as app version and operating system) needed to operate the Service and diagnose errors.
We do not sell your personal data, and we do not use it for third-party advertising.
2. How We Use Your Information
We use your information to:
- Personalize your learning, for example by showing content in your native language and adapting cards and lessons to your level;
- Track your progress and sync your saved words and results across your devices;
- Improve the Service, fix bugs and develop new features;
- Provide customer support and respond to your requests;
- Communicate important information about your account or changes to the Service;
- Protect the security and integrity of the Service and comply with legal obligations.
We process your data on the basis of the performance of our contract with you (providing the Service), our legitimate interests (improving and securing the Service), your consent where required, and compliance with legal obligations.
3. Data Storage
Your data is stored in a PostgreSQL database hosted on secure servers in the European Union, provided by Hetzner Online GmbH in Germany. We apply appropriate technical and organizational measures to protect your data, including encrypted connections (HTTPS), hashed passwords and restricted access to our servers.
No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, but we work continuously to protect your information against unauthorized access, loss or misuse.
4. Third-Party Services
To provide certain features, we rely on trusted third-party providers. We share with them only the data strictly necessary for each feature:
- DeepL — to translate words and sentences. The text you submit for translation is sent to DeepL for processing.
- Pexels — to display images that illustrate vocabulary. Search terms related to words are sent to Pexels; no personal account data is shared.
- Google and Apple — to let you sign in with your Google or Apple account. These providers share with us your name and email address according to the permissions you grant.
Each of these providers processes data in accordance with its own privacy policy. We encourage you to review them.
5. Data Retention
We keep your personal data for as long as your account is active. When you delete your account, your personal data — including your profile, learning progress and saved words — is permanently deleted from our systems, except where we are legally required to retain certain information for a limited period.
Anonymous, aggregated statistics that cannot identify you may be retained to help us improve the Service.
6. Your Rights
Because our servers are located in the European Union, we process your data in compliance with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). Regardless of where you live, you have the right to:
- Access the personal data we hold about you and obtain a copy of it;
- Correct inaccurate or incomplete data;
- Delete your account and personal data at any time;
- Restrict or object to certain processing of your data;
- Data portability — receive your data in a structured, commonly used format;
- Withdraw consent at any time, where processing is based on consent.
You can exercise these rights from within the app or by emailing us at linguaswipe.app@gmail.com. We will respond within 30 days. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.
7. Children's Privacy
The Service is not directed at children under the age of 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal data from children under 13. If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child has provided us with personal data, please contact us and we will delete it promptly. In some EU countries the minimum age for consent may be higher (up to 16); users below that age should use the Service only with parental consent.
8. Changes to Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in the Service or in legal requirements. When we do, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page and, where the changes are significant, notify you through the app or by email.
